Beginning Fall 2001, Kodiak College was awarded a five-year Federal Title III grant to improve existing academic programs, to develop new programs in high-demand fields, and to develop appropriate access to academic programs for Kodiak’s diverse populations.

The overall purpose of the Kodiak College grant is to strengthen our ability to provide access to relevant, contemporary, quality instructional programs, as well as our ability to provide appropriate, effective support services for all students.

For more information, contact Robbie Townsend Vennel at (907) 486-1236.

The two activities funded for this project are summarized below.

New certificate and/or degree programs, including Web Design, Graphics Design, Medical Transcription, Paraprofessional Education, Human Services and others

Facilities, equipment and technical standards to support new courses and degree offerings.

Training, tools, and personnel for delivery of these programs to the villages.

1) Proactive intake and advising, including assessment/placement, orientation, credit for military training/experience and other life experience, career advising, and a variety of on-line student services.

2) Improved basic skills curricula and programs, including a learning community option, a fully equipped and staffed Learning Center, and integration of competency-based and computer-assisted learning strategies.

4) New student tracking capabilities, from inquiry through completion, in order to determine our own and our students’ success in reaching their educational goals.
