Testing Center
The Kodiak College Test Center provides a wide range of assessment services in a low-stress, friendly environment. Our aim is to provide you with flexible timing, a quiet environment and personalized testing. Many instructors place all or some class tests in the Test Center so that you may take tests and quizzes when your schedule permits. Proctored BlackBoard tests, makeup tests and special accomodations are available by arrangement with instructors and the Test Center.
If you
are a new student, or have not taken classes in the past two years, please come to the Test Center for Placement Testing before registration. Placement assessments are often available on a walk-in basis.
Study for Placement Assessments in The Learning
Center
Students who take academic courses at Kodiak College are required to
take a placement test prior to registration. Students who study before they
take placement tests are more likely to test into courses that are
appropriate for their current skill levels. Tutors in The Learning Center
can help students prepare for these tests using approved study guides and
interactive software. The Learning Center is open limited hours
between semesters and during the summer months. Please call (907)
486-1203 for more information.
About Placement Tests
The computerized placement assessment determines proper course placement
to help ensure student academic success. The test measures competency in the
basic skill areas of reading, writing, and numerical skills. These tests are
not graded; the score is used solely to assist the student in selecting
appropriate courses.
Student IDs and Fees for the Placement Test
Students taking placement tests must provide their University of Alaska
student ID number. Students who have taken classes in the University
of Alaska system can look up their student ID number on UAOnline, or check
with Student Services for assistance. Please also
take your student ID number to the Bookstore/Business Office when you go to
pay the $10 fee for your placement testing. Your receipt must be shown in
the Test Center before testing begins.
The placement assessment is computerized and UNTIMED. Plan for two
hours; some students require more time, some less. An orientation booklet
with sample questions is available in the Test Center, room 210, Campus
Center or in The Learning Center in room 205, Campus Center. A calculator
for the math assessment is provided in the test
program if required. Additionally,
students are asked to complete a short,
untimed Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) following the
ACCUPLACER.
Call the Test Center at (907) 486-1232 to arrange for a placement assessment
during the hours listed below. Walk-in testing is often possible on a
space-available basis. Please call or stop in at your convenience. After
taking a placement assessment, call (907) 486-1211 to arrange for academic
advising prior to registration.
