What is included in the placement tests?
The Accuplacer test is used to determine placement in writing and includes a reading
comprehension and grammar test.
New students will also be required to take the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory
(LASSI) for use in advising about learning strategies that will increase success in
Students use the ALEKS Placement, Preparation, and Learning (PPL) system to determine
their math placement.
Does every student have to take a placement test?
No and some students may only need a writing or a math placement test. For example,
students who place into college-level writing on the SAT or ACT do not need to take the Accuplacer. Transfer students who have completed college-level
math do not need the ALEKS and transfer students who have completed college-level
writing do not need to take the Accuplacer. Seek advising from Student Services if you are unsure if you need either the Accuplacer or the ALEKS.
