Financial Aid
Federal Financial Aid
Federal financial aid is available to every student who is admitted to a certificate or degree program.
Applying for financial aid is an annual process that includes the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Students should begin applying in January for the next school year using the previous year’s tax information.
Example: in January 2007, students start to apply for financial aid for the 2007/2008 school year, using information from 2006 taxes.

About FAFSA
FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Filing the FASFA online is recommended because the processing time is much shorter than the traditional paper form.
The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Kodiak College uses the same school code as our parent college UAA. The code is 011462.
Your financial aid interactions (including accepting, declining, and managing your account) will be conducted through UAOnline.
Types of Aid
Use the FASFA to apply for the following types of Financial Aid:
Grants consist of money that does not need to be repaid; amount is based on need.
Federal loans are available to all students and need to be repaid starting six months after graduation.
Work Study allows you to work on campus while going to school.
Note: It is best to indicate interest in all types of aid when you file your FAFSA. You will be able to refuse any or all parts of your financial aid award if you choose to do so.
Part-time or Full-time?
The number of classes you register for affects the amount of federal aid for which you are eligible.
Full-time status during the fall and spring semesters is a minimum of 12 credits per semester; summer full-time status is 6 or more credits.
Part-time status during the fall and spring semester is 6-11 credits per semester; summer is 3-5 credits.
Due to scheduling conflicts and cancelled classes, it takes careful planning and advising to maintain the full-time 12 credit minimum. For help in choosing additional courses, please seek academic advising from Student Services.
Scholarships
Many scholarships are available from the local community. Kodiak College Student Services office keeps current scholarship postings and applications on file. Call (907) 486-1214 or come to room 119 in the Campus Center for more information.
Students admitted to degree or certificate programs may apply for Kodiak College tuition waivers each semester. Applications are available on the Kodiak College website or at Student Services on campus.
Other scholarship opportunities are available through the University of Alaska Foundation at http://www.alaska.edu/uafound/. Deadlines are in mid-February for the following academic year.
