April Laktonen Counceller, Ph.D
April Laktonen Counceller, Ph.D., also known as Isiik, is an enrolled tribal member of the Native Village of Larsen Bay, and resides in Kodiak, AK. She received her B.A. in Anthropology and American Civilization from Brown University in 2002, her M.A. in Rural Development from University of Alaska, Fairbanks, in 2005, and her Ph.D. in Fall, 2010 from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Interdisciplinary Program in Language Planning and Indigenous Knowledge Systems. April is an Assistant Professor of Alutiiq Language and Culture and the Activity Director for the Title III Alutiiq Studies and Student Support project. She teaches courses in Alutiiq Language and Alaska Native Studies. April also serves as the Language Program Manager at the Alutiiq Museum & Archaeological Repository.
