The department offers courses in composition, rhetoric, literature, linguistics, media, journalism, and study and thinking strategies. Most English Deparment courses fulfill the university's general education requirements in written communication, humanities, or social sciences, as well as satisfy many prerequisites for upper-level coursework at UAA or another 4-year university.

Are you a high school junior or senior interested in getting a jump start in college?  Take ENGL A111 Methods of Written Communication, a required course in all degree programs, this summer!  See summer schedule for dates, times, and prerequisites.

                Are you looking for ways to make yourself more marketable in the workplace?  Looking for a new job?  Promotion?  This summer’s ENGL A212 Technical Writing course is designed to help you in all forms of business communication: from developing your resume, to sprucing up your emails and business letters, to gaining experience in more complex writing such as procedural/instructional writing and grant/proposal writing.  See summer schedule for dates, times, and prerequisites. 

Filipino Poetry!
This unit, recently added to the ENGL A202 World Literature II course analyzes Filipino / Tagalog poetry from the 1920's, 30's and 40's. The course also features a unit on Russian literature! Coming Fall 2009.
