The The Bachelor of Arts in
Elementary Education
(BAEE) at Kodiak College is an extension of
the NCATE accredited teacher education
program offered on the UAA main campus in
the College of Education. This program will
provide students with an excellent
preparation for a career as an elementary
classroom teacher. Upon successful
completion of all program requirements,
students will be eligible to receive an Initial,
Type A, Alaska Teacher’s License. Unique
features of this program include a strong
liberal studies emphasis, integration of
educational technology, and a year-long
professional internship in a local public
school that which will follow their academic
calendar rather than Kodiak College’s or
UAA’s.
The senior year of the program includes a
year-long, professional internship in a public
elementary school classroom, with classes
throughout the internship year to help
support you while you develop and refine
effective K-6 teaching methodologies. Over
the course of the internship year, you will
gradually spend more time in an elementary
school classroom and less of your time in the
university/college setting. The internship
period is designed to allow you an
opportunity to apply theory to practice in a
supportive, professional environment with a
highly-qualified mentor teacher(s).
