My first visit to Larsen Bay accomplished one major goal: opening lines of communication between myself and members of the Larsen Bay community. I met with many members of the Larsen Bay community who work in a public facility, and I met with the school teachers in Larsen Bay, Jake and Kirsta Parrett. Meeting the individuals working at the tribal council was quite encouraging because when I walked in the door they said, "What do you have for us?". . Of particular note, Marcus Hill, one of the communitiy health aides, is currently enrolled in our anatomy and physiology course that is being offered over Elluminate.

Last Spring when the Rural Leadership Forum met here at the college, we saw continuing communication as one of the greatest challenges in the new Adopt a Faculty program. To this end, I believe that it is crucial that I visit Larsen Bay at least two times each year. I have committed to travel to Larsen Bay each semester when the new course catalog is published to personally deliver the catalog. This is important for Larsen Bay because an outreach coordinator fro Kodiak College is not currently placed there.

In December, I will return with the course catalog and also attend the city council meeting. At that meeting the rural leaders and myself thought it might be a good idea to demonstrate how to find online classes through the Kodiak College website and the Universitiy of Alaska Distance Education Gateway, and also how to register for classes on UAOnline.
