| Kodiak College Proudly presents the Artist of the Month | ||||||||||||
In recognition of the many talented artists whose lives have been touched by Kodiak and its environs, Kodiak College presents a changing gallery of work that celebrates the history, culture, beauty and diversity of the island and its people. September 2006 Edition Lena Amason A lifelong artist, Lena Amason grew up in the village of Port Lions. Born to a family of artists, her parents Alvin Amason and Kathy Nelson encouraged Lena to create art from an early age. Lena attended the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and graduated in May 2002 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. While she has worked in many different mediums and themes, she finds herself returning again and again to those that reflect her native heritage and rural upbringing.
She is currently working on a series of red cedar masks and a succession of paintings on wood about subsistence fishing. Lena has sold her artwork in galleries in Anchorage and Fairbanks, and through the stores in the Alaska Native Medical Center and the Alutiiq Museum. She currently lives in Old Harbor. Previous Artist of the Month Back to Kodiak College Main Page In cooperation with the Alutiiq Museum in Kodiak. If you would like your work to be featured on this page, please contact Dave Owens. |
