Remote Environmental Learning Station (RELS)

Remote Environmental Learning Stations (RELS) are being developed to provide students with a real-time look at the environment in Kodiak.

These 4 units consist of remote cameras and weather stations, which collect precipitation amounts, as well as measure wind speed and direction, temperature, dew point, and relative humidity. Some stations have additional data collection sensors, including carbon dioxide, barometric pressure, pH, salinity, soil moisture, soil temperature, and total chlorophyll.

The first station is located on the Kodiak College campus.

The second station is located at the top of Pillar Mountain.

The third station is located in the small boat harbor in Port Lions.

The fourth station is a mobile unit to collect data from various locations around the island. The fourth station includes a water monitoring device with multiple sensors.
